A large crowd gathered at the graveside of Irish Citizen Army and Cumann na mBan Volunteer Winifred Carney in Belfast to mark the 82nd anniversary of her death. The commemoration was led by a Lasair Dhearg colour party and wreaths were laid by Cara Kelly on behalf of Lasair Dhearg and Máire Drumm on behalf of the Carney family.
Lasair Dhearg’s Martine Jackson chaired the event and the main speaker, Amy Margaret spoke of Carney’s role in the fight against British occupation and the fight for socialism as well as women’s role in the revolution before the commemoration came to a close.
