As people across Ireland enjoy the Christmas period with family and friends, it’s important that we keep in our minds those who are currently imprisoned in British & Free State gaols for the ‘crime’ of acting in opposition to Britain’s occupation of Ireland.
Christmas can be an especially difficult time to be separated from loved ones. This is only exacerbated by the daily injustices faced by Republican prisoners, including regular sexual assaults by prison screws in the form of strip searches and the ongoing denial of their right to learn and converse in the native language of this country.
This Christmas Lasair Dhearg extend our solidarity to those who are behind bars for their resistance to imperialism in Ireland, many for years on remand without trial.
We also send our thoughts and solidarity to the activists on hunger strike in England, who have entered a particularly dangerous period of their struggle. We call on people to send their support to all prisoners of the struggle against imperialism, at home and abroad.
