Off To Die For Washington & Brussels? – FFG Regime Begin Dismantling ‘Triple Lock’

The move by the FFG regime in the Twenty Six Counties to remove the “triple lock” is a clear indication of their intention to send Irish troops to fight and die in illegal wars on behalf of Washington and Brussels.

Speaking earlier today Pádraic MacCoitir, Leas-Cathaoirleach Lasair Dhearg said, “The ‘triple lock’, as with all aspects of the traditional policy of neutrality, enjoys widespread public support in the Twenty Six Counties, in spite of a concerted campaign by the regime and client media in recent years to diminish and delegitimise this position. The absurdity of calls to join NATO while six counties of Ireland remain occupied by a NATO member is not lost on the Irish people.”

He continued, “Scaremongering about the threat of Russian vessels and undersea cables, phantom drones and cyber attacks have all been part of this pathetic propaganda push, which did nothing to shift the needle of public support in favour of the US and EU’s dictated policy: ‘You will spend your money on our weapons, you will let us use your airports and docks for our offensive wars, and you will send Irish people to die where we tell you to.'”

In these circumstances, the quisling regime in the south did what they do best: they pushed through their chosen measure in the Dáil under cover of darkness and minimised potential for debate. This in the midst of escalating housing and cost of living crises, and the largest public sector strike in decades, shows you where their priorities lie as a political force: appeasing their foreign masters at the expense of the people they represent.

We oppose the increasing calls for militarisation and war, in Ireland and across Europe. These serve nobody but a small class of capitalists, who see their system in a deepening crisis, and perceive the working class as expendable in pursuing their geopolitical goals. Our vision for Ireland is a free and independent, 32 County workers’ republic, serving neither Washington nor Brussels, but the people of Ireland.
