The British Army, in an attempt to recruit young Irish people to defend the their genocidal and imperialist war efforts, attended a jobs fair in Derry in recent days.
Speaking on the issue, Lasair Dhearg Derry’s Aoibhe Ní hIoltáin said, “The British Army will never be welcome in Derry. We must not fall for the lie that the Good Friday Agreement sold us – the British Army never left. Those sitting in Stormont encourage us to believe that times are different, that the Good Friday Agreement got the British Army out of Ireland. All the while, barracks still remain in the Waterside, and the occupying forces of the PSNI continue to stop and search over twice as many Catholics than those from the Protestant Community. The British State ensures that while they remain in Ireland, the Irish people will continue to be harassed.”
“The wounds that the people of Derry have been left with are still fresh, and for those who continue to oppress our people to be welcomed by supposed Republicans in government, is completely tone-deaf.”
“It is an insult to the families of those who were brutally gun downed down by British Army terrorists, to the men, women and children, and the families still fighting for justice”
“The people of Ireland will continue to suffer, economically, physically and psychologically, so long as Britain remains in Ireland – Stormont cannot change this, the Good Friday Agreement has not and will not change this.”
Aoibhe added, “Only a Socialist Republic can rid Ireland of those that choose to oppress us.”
