In recent days a number of residents on Belfast’s Cavehill Road have contacted Lasair Dhearg to voice their concerns at the possibility of an unwanted sectarian parade through their area.

Lasair Dhearg spokesperson Pól Torbóid said that he had been told that the march was ”absolutely not wanted” in the area and that residents were now organising against it.

“According to the Parades Commission website”, he said, “the march is due to take place on the morning of the 12th of July. The Parades Commission have indicated that the march is under consideration and has been marked as ‘sensitive’. About 70 loyalists are expected to be in attendance including the Harthill Loyalists Flute Band.”

“Locals, who are now actively organising against this sectarian encroachment, have advised me that those residents who wish to object can do so by contacting the Parades Commission on 028 9089 5900. State that you are a Cavehill Road resident, and surnames do not need to be provided.”
