The newly appointed Police Ombudsman has came out and said she is “deeply concerned” by the large number of investigations involving PSNI members abusing their positions for sexual exploitation.
The Police Ombudsman highlights that 36% of the most serious complaints that they are dealing with involves predatory behaviour by PSNI officers with one of the victims being as young as 14.
This is clearly an institutional problem within the PSNI because from 2018-2024, six PSNI members were sacked or convicted for abusing their roles. This is whilst data from health groups show that most people who experience sexual abuse do not report it due to feelings of fear and shame.
There is nothing normal about the PSNI.
