Increased concern for Ireland’s youth – Lasair Dhearg

Whilst all have suffered during the ongoing Covid crisis, there are increasing concerns about an often overlooked generation of the Irish populace; our youth.

Ciarán O’Brien, Lasair Dhearg spokesperson said, “Recent figures indicate that those aged 15-24 have been massively impacted by the economic effects of the pandemic.”

“In the Twenty Six County state, youth unemployment figures increased to 15.7% in January of this year, and already swollen statistics for the Six County State for those not working increased to 28%, a statistically significant figure.”

“There are more worrying concerns looking ahead as it is expected that young graduates entering an already saturated job market at the end of the academic year will exacerbate the already difficult conditions.”

Ciarán said, “This is a generation already suffering the effects of the capitalist economic system, with thousands lost to suicide in recent years. These statistics are often massaged to hide the real extent of the issues at hand, by governments who care more about multi-national conglomerates and less about the Irish people.”

“Only a 32 County Socialist Republic can solve the issues of an expensive education system, youth unemployment, forced migration and continued losses to suicide.”

“Ireland’s youth is Ireland’s future. We must make that future as bright as possible.”
