Lasair Dhearg attend vigil in Belfast – End violence against women

Last night, Lasair Dhearg activists attended a vigil at Belfast City Hall in remembrance of Amy Doherty, Ellie Flanagan and the other 28 women murdered across the Six Counties since 2020.

The ongoing epidemic of male violence against women and girls is a stain on our society. However, it reflects the wider system which we all live in.

Whether we admit it or not, for all the appearance of change, women still occupy a lesser place in the minds of too many of our people. Unfortunately, these attitudes are only getting worse among younger generations.

Until fundamental change starts to happen and men as a collective begin to enact change in their own minds and in their social circles, this epidemic is doomed to continue.

We remember Amy Doherty, Ellie Flanagan and all others who have killed or injured through male violence against women.

Ní neart go cur le chéile. Ní saoirse go saoirse na mbán.
