No Justice For Bloody Sunday Families

The British prosecution service in Ireland has confirmed it will present no charges against 15 members of the Parachute Regiment who were complicit in the 1972 Bloody Sunday massacre on the streets of Derry.

Pádraic Mac Coitir, Lasair Dhearg spokesperson, said, “Due to what they claim is insufficient evidence, the British Public Prosecution Service has decided to uphold its decision that they will bring no charges against any member of the 1st Battalion Parachute Regiment present that day in Derry, with the exception of one: Soldier F.”

“It will come as no surprise to many that the British judicial system in Ireland has again failed to bring justice to Irish families and action against a regiment that months after carrying out the Ballymurphy Massacre, went on to shoot 26 civil rights demonstrators; killing 14 of them.”

“We in Lasair Dhearg will always support the individuals and families who were victims of British state terrorism in their quest for justice and answers. However today’s news only reinforces the belief that all those who have suffered through the violence and murder of Britain’s war machine in Ireland may never find the truth or justice they seek whilst Britain occupies the Six Counties and maintains its corrupt legal system – that protects British armed forces and its agents still active in Ireland today.”
