Óglach Brendan Hughes: 1948-2008

Today, we remember Óglach Brendan Hughes who died on this date in 2008.

Brendan ‘The Dark’ Hughes, was a fearless revolutionary who fought for the working class of Ireland until his last breath. He was a true soldier of Ireland.

Following the implementation of the Good Friday Agreement, Brendan became outspoken in opposition to this false ‘peace process’, recognising that it meant nothing in terms of tackling the evils of capitalism haunting many lives in the six counties.

“I am asking why we are not fighting for and defending the rights of ordinary working people – for better wages and working conditions. Does 30 years of struggle boil down to a big room at Stormont, Ministerial cars, dark suits and the Patten Report?”
