The PSNI’s protection of Nazi CSKA Sofia supporters in the Brandywell area of Derry yesterday evening should be unequivocally condemned by all.
Far-right CSKA Sofia fans, who arrived in Derry alongside the team as they played Derry City, were throwing objects at families and children, many of which had to flee the game for their own safety. This is a club with history of Nazi sympathies amongst its supporters and significant numbers of their fans were also observed performing Nazi salutes.
Heavily armed PSNI gunmen granted protection to these thugs, walking them through the City. This is unsurprising, given the PSNI’s observation of minority families being burnt out of their homes during racist riots in previous months. The PSNI have also been pictured with the thugs who peddled the bigotry which allowed the pogrom to ensue.
Fascists will never be welcome in Ireland, nor will those who protect them. There is nothing ‘normal’ about the PSNI.
