The arrests in recent days of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Peter Mandelson are nothing but a performative gesture of ‘justice’ by the British State.
This is not to say that Mountbatten-Windsor and his co-accused Mandelson don’t deserve to be punished for their abhorrent crimes that they and their peers have been responsible for. Rather, these token arrests fail to address the core issues around how such atrocious acts were allowed to be carried out over such a prolonged period of time. The core issue here is the imbalance of power in society that allows those with wealth and status to act in such heinous ways and yet remain impervious to the laws which supposedly bind all others in our society. This case is an obvious and flagrant example but there are countless examples of powerful figures exploiting and destroying the livelihoods of the vast majority of the population whilst getting nothing more than a slap on the wrist when they are exposed.
As long as this massive power imbalance exists in society those with power will push the limits and all too often this results in the disgusting crimes revealed publicly with the release of the ‘Epstein files’. This pattern of abuse can be seen time and time again by those in positions of power, notably in Ireland with the abuse by the Catholic Church of young children, the Kincora boys home or with Mr Mountbatten-Windsor’s uncle Louis Mountbatten.
These vile crimes are part and parcel with this power imbalance and will not be rooted out and stopped properly until power is wielded by the majority of society who are currently ‘excluded’. We are pleased for the victims that action is finally being taken against Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Peter Mandelson and understand how happy they will be to see their power and prestige being stripped away, layer by layer. However, this must only be the beginning and only Socialism will deliver true justice and stop such abusers.
