Concern over Derry covert listening device.

Lasair Dhearg Derry activists note with concern the discovery of a high-tech listening device planted by British Intelligence agents in an allotment in Creggan.

Images of the device which have been circulated widely on social media show the device hidden within a small imitation stone.

Speaking from Derry, a Lasair Dhearg activist said that “the fact that a British Intelligence agent was caught red handed planting this device shows that British Intelligence maintains a firm presence in Ireland, operating a covert intelligence war aimed at working class republican communities”.

“There have been several recent and active cases where covert recordings have been used to convict republicans. The British Army and the PSNI stockpile a huge arsenal in Ireland, including sophisticated recording equipment. This is just one aspect of their intelligence war in Ireland.”
