It has been revealed that all ninety of Stormont’s MLA’s are to receive a £14,000 pay rise from April 2026. Stormont’s MLA’s already receive £53,000 a year, which means their salaries increase to £67,200.
This year Stormont made severe public service funding cuts implemented by Sinn Fein finance minister John O’Dowd. This saw a 64% decrease in community sector funding from approximately £25.2 million down to to £9.2 million. These cuts are expected to cause at least hundreds of job losses in the community sector and threaten services supporting 11,000 people annually. Stormont MLA’s clearly believe their wage increases are more important than vital public services.
This is nothing but a slap in the face for those vital services and for the more than 48,000 households on social housing waiting lists in the Six Counties and the at least one in five children who live in poverty.
Our message is clear: Stormont cannot deliver.
