In the past few weeks Lasair Dhearg were contacted by concerned residents from the Cavehill area of North Belfast in relation to a planned Orange Order parade.

The Cavehill Temperance Lodge planned to march along the Cavehill road on the 12th of July, a march that sparked fear and concern among residents last year.

Lasair Dhearg spokesperson Pól Torbóid said that he had been told that the march was “absolutely not wanted” in the area and that residents hoped to organise against it.

“Last week Lasair Dhearg released a statement advising residents who wanted to object to this sectarian encroachment, that they could do so by contacting the Parades Commission.”

“Subsequent to our statement in support of the residents on Cavehill Road and their opposition to the march, the Parades Commission has determined that the parade will be rerouted along the Westland Road instead.”

“Residents have subsequently been in touch and told us that they welcome this outcome.”
