A British Navy aircraft carrier, the HMS Queen Elizabeth, has docked in Belfast this week. It is here as part of a tour of Northern Europe in it’s role as command ship of NATO’s ‘Allied Response Force’ and will remain for four days.
The ship, which can carry up to 40 fighter jets and up to 1,600 crew, has been used over the past six years by the British Navy to project imperialism across the globe. It comes less than a month after two other warships docked in Belfast.
Questions need to be asked of parties such as Sinn Féin and the SDLP, supposedly Irish nationalist and anti-imperialist, as to why they are remaining silent on the arrival of a British naval flagship to Irish waters.
Later that day, British Army anti-ordnance vehicles were spotted driving through Belfast City centre.
These increasingly common incidents are undeniable evidence of the way in which Ireland and its people are being dragged into imperialist global conflicts, exploited in the interest of foreign powers.
In a Socialist Republic Ireland will be completely decolonised, with all aspects of British and Imperialist presence completely eradicated.
